Last night “Gone with the wind” was on Telly and I started thinking: “Wow, this Scarlett really is the Queen of Procrastination!” She is constantly saying things like “I can’t deal with this now” or her famous “Tomorrow is another day”. She is not the only one. The world that we live in is full of distractions and we all procrastinate from time to time.
Here you have a list of ideas to start today what you want to do tomorrow. If you want to get better about not putting things off, this is your video: (If you can’t understand Spanish, you can read the ideas below)
1-Clarify your goal: having a specific goal is important. But it is even more important to have a clear vision of all the steps you’ll need to take to achieve it.
2-Don’t fight resistance, be thankful: we tend to resist only what is really important to us. And having a dream, having something that keeps you excited and alive is a luxury. Not everybody has identify their dream so if you have the opportunity to embrace your passion, be grateful. The minute you stop fighting resistance you’ll find it easier to take the first step, even if it is a tiny one.
3-Change your deadline and give yourself less time: If you think you can do this thing in two days, say you’ll have it by tomorrow. Most procastinators work better under pressure, when there is no other option than to focus on the task.
4-Tell yourself that you are going to do it for five minutes: This really works for me when I have a long task in front of me that I don’t want to do (es: cleaning the kitchen). I tell myself that I am just going to do it for five minutes: “I’ll clean just this cupboad“. Most of the time, I find myself one hour later with a spotless kitchen. Trick your mind, sometimes all you have to do is start.
Remember: take one tiny step, then another. That’s how people get to top of the Everest.
What other tools do you use to finish your to-do list ? I’d love to read them!
